Hi Kim
I found your blog (sorry, took a while, I'm a bit of a technotit) - great stuff; I've just linked you. Hope that's OK
Congratulations - that was fast!
Congratulations Kim! I know that i have learned a lot from your blog, and I am glad that so many other people have found it as well.
Dr Crippen: I'm honored by the link!
Thank you very much!
Couturix and Punchberry - thanks!!
Hi Kim,
I'm a nursing student and I still have another two years to go before I'm done. I've been interested in becoming an ER nurse, but I'm worried that my organization skills wouldn't be good enough, and that I'd be too caught up in one thing, and forget about others. Did you ever have this problem, or have you always been pretty on the ball?
Kirby, you develop your organizational skills as you work in the ER. It is normal as a new nurse in any situation to focus inward and not be as attuned to the big picture. As you gain experience, you are able to take in more of what is happening around you, to anticipate what might come next and be able to prioritize.
It's a learning experience - the more you do it the better you get. It is no different than being organized in med surg or perinatal, you just have your patients change more often and you see more in 8 hours.
Thanks so much I feel better about it now.
Do you think you'll ever want to do something different from the ER?
Kirby,
Already have done other nursing functions - coronary care, ICU, Telemetry, Psych, office doing telephone triage.
I think about what it would be like to work ICU again, but I haven't been in an ICU since 1989 and I'd need a full orientation! Ugh! I'm quite happy in the ER!
Congrats on 10K, Kim! 20K will come very quickly now.
Congrats, Kim...I was surprised to see I was over 9000 now with this counter. I didn't have one for months and then switched counters. But for some reason, hitting 10,000 on this one seems significant to me. It's exciting!
I SOOO enjoy reading you and learn so much. I am catching up this week on "fun stuff" and reading you is one of those things.
Hh
Congrats on the 10k! :) Love reading your blog - I feel like I learn so much from you! Keep up the great work.
Congrats! I've noticed you and I started blogging about the same time, yet I have about 1/2 as many hits as you. I wish I were you... :)
